Welcome to the Toddler Room!
We are delighted to share all the fun and learning your toddlers have been experiencing throughout the week. From creative play to building new skills, we’ll share their exciting adventures and milestones. Every day is packed with laughter, learning, and discovery as they explore the world around them.
Week 14
The toddler room have been enjoying joining in with the festive activities this week. For our imaginative play we have a pop-up play post office. The children have enjoyed mark making and placing their letters inside.
In the art studio the children have enjoyed creating shiny winter collages. The children have also been looking at the artwork from Hendrick Avercamp and creating their own paintings.
Our song of the week has been Five Little Robin's.
Week 13
This week in the Toddler room we have enjoyed welcoming everyone for our festive stay and play.
The children enjoyed exploring the polar express train track and sharing the golden tickets with each other.
In the art studio we have been making sheep masks and decorating stars.
In the home corner we have enjoyed dressing up in the nativity costumes.
Our nursery rhyme of the week has been twinkle twinkle little star.
Week 12
This week in the Toddler room we have been celebrating world nursery rhyme week.
On the playdough table we have been creating our own incy wincy spiders.
In the art studio we have been using lots of bright colours to create rainbows and singing the rainbow song.
In the math's area we have been counting out the speckled frogs.
On the finger gym we have been threading around the clocks for hickory dickory dock.
Our nursery rhyme of the week has been ‘Incy Wincy Spider’.
Week 11
This week in the Toddler room we have been celebrating road safety week.
We have been learning the stop look and listen song. Talking about how we stay safe near the road and in the car. Always remember to sit in your car seat and have your seatbelt on.
In the art studio we explored making marks with the cars in the paint.
On the playdough table we explored flattening the black playdough to create our own roads.
On the mark making table we made marks to represent road signs.
Our song of the week has been “I'm driving in my car”.
Week 10
On Monday in the Toddler room, we were very creative and made our own poppy wreath using handprints for Remembrance Day.
Also, this week in the Toddler room we have been celebrating friendship week. We have been learning how to be kind to each other, how to share and working together in play.
On the playdough table we have been looking at ourselves in the mirrors and created faces with the natural-coloured playdough.
On the finger gym we celebrated odd socks day by using tweezers to collect the pom poms to decorate our odd socks.
The children have enjoyed listening to the “Simon sock” story, where we celebrated being unique.
Our song of the week was “sharing is caring”.
Week 9
This week in the Toddler room we have been celebrating Bonfire Night.
In the art studio we have been creating firework pictures using bright colours. As we have been painting, we have been making the sounds of the fireworks “bang, whoosh, eeee”.
The children also enjoyed watching video clips of fireworks and using scarves to make the movements. “Can you make your firework go whoosh into the sky”.
On the playdough table we have been making firework shapes out of the colourful playdough.
We also had a visitor, Miss Emma from Whittingham dance, who came to the nursery to do a dance workshop with us. This was lots of fun, and the children all joined in doing the different activities.
Our song of the week has been “bonfire night”.
Week 8
In the Toddler room this week we have been celebrating Diwali. The children joined in with the Diwali workshop with Jee. We listened to lots of different music and moved our bodies to the way it made us feel. Jee showed us lots of Bangra dance moves which the children joined in with.
We also learnt all about the special objects that are shared during Diwali celebrations. The children especially enjoyed learning about the drums.
On the playdough table the children created their own Diva lamps using brightly coloured playdough and gems.
For our story time we shared the story of Rama and Sita learning about how the celebration of Diwali began.
Our nursery rhyme of the week was “Its Diwali”
Week 7
This week in the Toddler room we have been exploring painting on large surfaces. The children enjoyed being the “boss of the brush” keeping the hairs on their paintbrush tall and straight when painting. As the children were painting, they talked about the colours they were using. We used our large motor skills to reach across the surface when painting.
At the finger gym the children enjoyed celebrating for black history month Garrett A. Morgan, the inventor who created the traffic lights system. The children used pom poms and tweezers to decorate the traffic light templates.
In the construction area the children had lots of fun building rockets to celebrate Mae Jemison the first African American woman to go into space.
Our nursery rhyme of the week was Dingle Dangle scarecrow.
Week 6
This week in the Toddler Room we have been celebrating black history month. Our focus this week has been on Alma Thomas, the famous artist who created bright and bold artwork. The children enjoyed creating colourful collages inspired by her work.
The children also enjoyed listening and dancing to reggae music this week.
On the playdough table the children created different fruits to go in the basket inspired by the story “Baby goes to Market”.
Our nursery rhyme of the week has been “Shake, shake the apple tree”.
Week 5
This week in the toddler room we have been sharing the story ‘The Colour Monster’ and talking about our feelings.
In the art studio we have been exploring the different colours linked to the story and role modelling language. “Yellow makes me feel warm and happy”.
The children have been making their own choices of which colour they would like to use and naming them. “I got yellow”.
We have also been listening to different genres of music and moving our bodies in different ways. We have talked about how the music makes us feel.
Our nursery rhyme for this week has been “if you're happy and you know it”.
Week 4
This week in the Toddler room we have been sharing the story ‘Goldilocks and the Three Bears’.
At the finger gym we have been using loose parts to create bear faces inspired by the story. The children have been looking at their own faces using mirrors to know where each loose part needs to go for the eyes, nose etc. The children have enjoyed naming each facial feature “look.....eye, nose”.
In the home corner the children have been retelling the goldilocks and the three bears storyline. We have been using our problem-solving skills to ensure there are three bowls and three spoons for the three bears tea party.
Our nursery rhyme of the week has been “When Goldilocks went to the house of the bears”.
Week 3
This week in the Toddler room we have enjoyed learning about the moon festival. We have listened to the story and learned about moon cakes.
On the playdough table the children have then enjoyed creating their own moon cakes.
We have also been listening to Chinese music and dancing with scarves, moving our bodies in different ways.
In the art studio we have been exploring mixing colours with bright bold colours. I wonder what happens when we mix red and yellow together?
Our nursery rhyme of the week has been ‘Five Little Monkeys Jumping On The Bed.’
